White-winged Dove

Summer is definitely making itself known in Phoenix with temps now in the triple digits and overnight lows around 80 degrees. So I won’t be getting out much to shoot at the Gilbert Water Ranch or other local places very much if at all until September. Instead I hope to get caught up on the backlog of unprocessed images, maybe rework some of my original digital photos back to 2004, and maybe shooting other subjects as I find them.

This White-winged Dove was perched on a stone in our back yard recently while I was outside on the patio with the camera gear. I think there was an obstruction that blocked the tip of the tail. With that very bright background (the dove is mostly in the shade here while the background is in direct sunlight) I used the spot meter to avoid under exposure of the subject.

This image is also the first I’ve processed on an iMac I just picked up yesterday. My ancient PowerMac G4 tower that I’ve had since 2004 finally died and getting a used iMac was cheaper than fixing the monster tower. It also gets me onto Intel processors so I can go to newer versions of OS X. But more importantly, I have more powerful and faster processors and more installed memory so that my old Photoshop CS3 runs much better. I did this  image just to make sure it was installed correctly and functional.
