Ernie (and I) Beat the Heat

As our temperatures continue to climb in Phoenix (the forecast is for 115 degrees on Tuesday) I continue to stay inside as much as possible. That means I’m not getting much chance for bird photography other than random visitors to our backyard as with this out of season Warbling Vireo.

But I still feel the need to take photos, and that means one of our two indoor-only cats will have to substitute.

This is Ernie. His behavior is the most dog-like of any cat we’ve ever had. He plays catch and fetch – he especially likes to carry small trophies (paper balls, rubber bands, bag ties) to his food dish where he deposits them on top of the dry food. Ernie also likes to spend time with me, joining me on the couch or chair when I’m reading or watching TV, sharing an afternoon nap (what else am I going to do in this heat?), or just being underfoot when I try to walk somewhere.

Like all cats Ernie can’t resist lying on to of something, or getting inside a box or closed space. So that means if I place a drawer from the dresser on the bed and turn my back I’ll probably find Ernie in it when I turn back.

So, why would I take a drawer out of the dresser in the first place? So that Bert could spend some quality time in the open space!

  1. You have such beautiful cats Rich, and both of them have lovely eyes. I had a cat like Ernie who thought he was a dog, he even walked on a leash well. He did some odd things though like catching flies in the windowsills and he would leave them as a “gift” on my pillow. Excellent photography as always.

  2. Very cute Rich, and good looking cats, both. I’m sure they love the attention.
