Lost Glove

Lost Glove

Although my primary subject matter has been birds for many years now, that doesn’t mean I don’t take photos of other things that catch my eye. While I used to go out with lenses covering the more typical focal length range these days I’m limited to my bird lens – a 300/2.8 with a matching 2x converter. That makes some things I see while I walk around not suitable subjects, I can still get some interesting shots with the 600, or the 300 if I take the converter off.

I came upon this glove on February 7, 2011, while walking the trails at the Gilbert Water Ranch. I’d made a late afternoon visit for a change of pace. At the end of the path I noticed this old glove placed on top of the gatepost marking the edge of the preserve and knew immediately that I wanted a shot of it.

I was able to back off far enough to use the 300 with the (it is always attached when I’m out looking for birds, and I try not to switch lenses if possible in the dust of AZ). The glove is exactly as I found it, in existing light.

Nikon D200, 300/2.8 plus TC20E (2x), tripod, ISO 400, 1/2000th second at f/5.6 (wide open to minimize background distractions).

  1. This reminds me very much of a similar glove on a similar post we saw two years ago on the Madison River on our way to Cliff Lake in sw Montana to do some bird photography. We looked for it again last year but no luck. Wish I’d thought to take a photo like this. Gotta learn to think with more creativity…
