Summer Bummer Bunny

Filed under: backyard, light, weather — richditch @ 3:15 pm

With summer firmly established in Phoenix we’re seeing daily high temps anywhere from 106 to 113 locally, and even at first light temps can be 90 degrees. As a result there isn’t a lot of bird activity, and even less activity by wimpy bird photographers like me. So, I haven’t been out shooting for a few weeks and I haven’t had anything need to post here.

We still get to spend a lot of time watching activity in our back yard, and that isn’t limited to the birds. We’ve had increasing numbers of rabbits in the past year or so: probably because we don’t play outside like a lot of homeowners do and we let the yard as natural as we can get away with.

I couldn’t resist taking this shot around 11 am today when I noticed this rabbit sitting in the shade of a mesquite tree a few feet off our patio. It stayed put while I found the camera and set up on the tripod inside the house and aimed out through the dirty glass of the patio door.

Nikon D200, 300/2.8 AF-S plus TC20E (2x), Gitzo 1325 with RRS BH-55 and Sidekick, ISO 400, 1/60th second at f/5.6. 91% of full frame (cropped from top only for balance).

  1. It looks like some bunny was looking at you Rich. I love the pose, those huge ears and the setting.
