Verdin

I’m not getting out as much lately due to other duties, and when I have been out I haven’t been seeing as many birds as I like, and usually not as close as needed for decent bird photography.

But I really lucked out at the Gilbert Water Ranch on Tuesday morning. I’d been attracted to the side of the path by a bird, but it moved away before I could get off any shots. Then the Verdin landed in perfect light on a nice branch just off to my side, and it stayed put when I swung the lens around to frame it. I managed to get off a few shots before it too moved on. These tiny dynamos are very difficult to shoot – they are as active as kinglets and just as small, so I’m quite happy with this pair of shots.

D200, 300/2.8 plus TC20E (2x), ISO 400, 1/640th at f/10, about 80-85% of full frame.

Congrats on these beautiful Verdin images, these are both wonderful, natural looking images. Don’t you just love serendipity especially when you have the camera in hand?
