Its been very interesting for birders in central AZ over the past few weeks. I’ve recently posted about the invasion of Surf Scoters, and the single Black-legged Kittiwake we got to enjoy for about a week.
Now the action has turned to other rare gulls in another location – the so-called Glendale Recharge ponds on the northwest side of metro Phoenix. Found among the assorted ducks and shorebirds, with a handful of expected Ring-billed Gulls, was this Glaucous-winged Gull.
I made two visits – the first was on a morning with heavy overcast that made photography difficult. These images were made on November 18, 2011, in morning light under clear skies.

Rich,
You and many other people are getting to see some fairly rare birds the past couple of weeks. Congrats on this one!
